Writing Tools

There are three different add-ons that allow users to insert in-text citations and bibliographies directly into a document: Write-N-Cite, RefWorks Citation Manager and Cite for Google Docs (please note that Cite for Google Docs is not compatible with Legacy RefWorks).

Which tool to choose?

Not sure which RefWorks writing tool will work for you. Here's a rundown of each tool and its compatibilities and limitations.

Not compatible with Macs running Microsoft Word 2012 and higher

In Legacy RefWorks, download the appropriate version from the Writing Tool Add-on page under the Tools menu

In ProQuest RefWorks, download the appropriate version from the Tools page found under the Tools menu

RefWorks Citation Manager

Both ProQuest and Legacy RefWorks

Microsoft Word 2016 and higher on both Macs and PCs

Not compatible with computers running Microsoft Word 2015 and earlier Add-in found in Microsoft Word's Add-in Store
Cite for Google Docs ProQuest RefWorks Not compatible with Legacy RefWorks Add-on found in the G Suite marketplace accessed through Google Docs' Add-on menu
