We are discontinuing RefWorks

After careful consideration, The UAlberta Library has decided to discontinue the campus-wide institutional subscription to the RefWorks reference management service.

Our RefWorks subscription expires on October 1, 2021. You will need to back up your account data or transition to other reference management software before October 1st.

We have created the    RefWorks Transition Guide  to walk you through how to move your references out of RefWorks and into other reference management software.

Installing Write-in-Cite from ProQuest RefWorks

Download Write-N-Cite from your ProQuest RefWorks account by clicking on the Tools menu and selecting the Tools option.

Scroll down to the Cite your References in your Word Processor portion of the Tools page and Select the Microsoft Word Tab. Download and install the version of Write-n-Cite compatible with your computer and the version of Microsoft Word you are using.

Using Write-n-Cite

Prefer written instructions? Visit ExLibris' guide to Write-n-Cite.

Write-N-Cite and Macs have limited compatibility. A Write-N-Cite plug-in was never developed for the 2012-2015 versions of Microsoft Word for Macs.

If you the version of Word that you are using falls within this range, or you encounter other difficulties using Write-N-Cite on your Mac, try the Quick Cite option.

If you are using ProQuest RefWorks, you may want to try using Cite for Google Docs or upgrading the version of Microsoft Word you are using and try RefWorks Citation Manager.

Word 2011 and earlier for Mac

Download and install the appropriate version of Write-N-Cite for the OS on your Mac.

If you are prompted to install or update Java on your Mac, ensure that you download from Apple supportnot from the Java site.

After installing, open Word 2011 for Mac and navigate to View>Toolbars and make sure that RefWorks is checked.

This will enable the following toolbar. Click on the login symbol to log in to either ProQuest RefWorks or Legacy RefWorks:

Note:  Earlier versions of Word may refer to New RefWorks as Flow. If this is the case, login to Flow.
