Research Data Management (RDM)

Effective data management (RDM) is essential in supporting all phases of research - from design and implementation through to long-tem data stewardship.

In Spring 2021 the Tri-Agency RDM policy was released, notably highlighting the importance of institutional RDM strategies, data management planning, and long-term data stewardship.

The RDM related services and tools provided through the University of Alberta Library help researchers to effectively manage their data across the research life cycle.

What will a DMP do?

A data management plan (DMP) helps you tol:

identify needs and implement consistent strategies for managing your data throughout your project
ensure that your research respects and supports the tenets of Indigenous data sovereignty
meet requirements, including those imposed by funders
reduce the overall cost of research by increasing project efficiencies
support open science, including with respect to long-term data stewardship

DMP Assistant
DMP is a Library supported, web-based tool which enables you to develop and build a Data Management Plan (DMP). DMP Assistant is freely available to use by UA researchers, faculty and students as well as those beyond our institution.
University of Alberta Dataverse
The University of Alberta Dataverse is a research data repository service that is freely available for use by U of A researchers. Supported by the national Borealis Canadian Data Repository hosted by Scholars Portal at the University of Toronto, the U of A Dataverse is a library supported, web-based tool that enables researchers to deposit and publish research data, supporting open science through their open discovery and appropriate sharing.
