Newspapers Basics
DATABASES Many Newspapers are available digitally through databases the library subscribes to. Some of these databases provide the full newspaper image while others only provide text to the articles. Many local libraries and archives are also digitizing their local historical newspapers and can be found online.
PRINT Major Canadian and international newspapers can be found in print on the Main Floor of Rutherford Library. Typically several months are kept until the microfilm replacement arrives. For business newspapers see the Winspear Business Library, for Newspapers in French see the Bibliotheque St. Jean.
MICROFILM The majority of historical newspapers are still only available on microfilm. Microfilm is kept on the 2nd floor of Rutherford North or at the BARD. Microfilm readers that scan and save to USB or print are available at the Rutherford Library. Feel free to ask for help at the service desk for finding and using newspapers on microfilm.
