The academic e-book collections acquired by the UA Libraries are best read on a personal computer although some are downloadable and viewable on an e-book reader. While e-book readers are generally defined as electronic devices designed specifically for reading digital books (e.g. Sony Reader, Kobo, Kindle, nook), phones (e.g. iphone, Android phones) and tablets (e.g. ipad, Samsung Galaxy) along with desktop computers and laptops are all examples of devices that, with the appropriate software or apps, can be used to read e-books.
While some UAL e-books are simply viewable on a computer's Web browser, others require software such as Adobe Digital Editions. Adobe Digital Editions is compatible with screen reading software JAWS, NVDA or Window-Eyes on Windows and VoiceOver on Mac. Windows-based screen reading software must be installed separately.
