Indigenous Sport and Recreation

You can try similar terms to search for articles as for books:  

first nations or aboriginal or indigenous 

and include other aspects of your topic, such as sport, leisure, recreation, etc.

Articles are published more frequently and more quickly than books, which means that search terms are sometimes more contemporary, or more specific. So as well as the above, you can also search terms like:

• Metis (no accent needed)
• Inuit
• specific nation names, such as Cree, Blackfoot, or Haida. Think about whether the people's words for themselves are different than researchers' might be; for example, Kanien'kehá:ka or Mohawk.

Use these tricks to bring back more articles in your search: 

• The asterisk (*) finds any possible ending of a word
  • Indigen* will find Indigenous, Indigeneity, etc. 
  • Careful where you place it: nativ* will find native or natives, but also nativity. 
• Double quotes (" ") find a phrase exactly as written
  • "First Nations" will find this phrase.
  • Without, you will get articles with the word first in one sentence and nations in another. 
• The word AND puts together 2 different concepts, and brings back fewer results
  • capitalization doesn't matter! 
  • Indigenous and sport*
• The word OR is used for synonyms, and brings back more results
  • capitalization doesn't matter! 
  • Indigenous or "first nation*" or Cree or Blackfoot
• And you can layer these tricks, as you see above
