Researching Games & Gaming

If you're looking for articles or analysis on video games and gaming, you can use subject terms such as: Computer games, Video games combined with keywords that describe your topic, eg:

  • (Computer games OR Video games) AND Games of Strategy
  • (Computer games OR Video games) AND Simulation Games
  • (Computer games OR Video games) AND violence

Video/Electronic Games

Rutherford Library has a collection of video games, most of them console-based (Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox), and some educational games to be played on a computer.

There are several ways to search for video games within our collection. Here are some ready-made searches for format specific games:
     PlayStation
     Nintendo
     Xbox 

You can also go 'old school' and browse through the physical collection up on the 4th Floor of the Rutherford North library. The entire collection of video games is shelved at call number GV 1469.35....


To search through the library catalogue for our entire collection:

  • On the library homepage enter the term PZ electronic game (PZ is a catalogue limiter for electronic games)
  • Check off the Limit your search to library catalogue box:

  • Enter the term video games in the search box and select SU Subject terms from the pull down menu
  • Next, limit your search on the left side of the screen by selecting:
    • Resource type=electronic resources, and
    • Location=U of A Rutherford Humanities, Social Sciences & Education
