Teaching Indigenous Education

Start Here!

Welcome!
This section is here to support teachers and educators in finding resources to teach K–12 students about Indigenous treaties. You’ll find resources to help you share the history and importance of treaties in ways that are respectful, age-appropriate, and engaging.

Why Teach About Treaties?

Treaties are living agreements that continue to shape relationships between Indigenous Peoples and settlers today. Teaching about treaties helps students understand the history of the land they live on, Indigenous rights, and responsibilities we all share.

Getting Started

  • Browse the "Online Resources" page for classroom-friendly materials.

  • Use the "Books" section to find children's books and educational resources about treaties.

  • Explore our general "Treaties" tab if you want to build your own knowledge first.

  • Check out recommended videos designed for K–12 audiences.

Teaching about treaties should center Indigenous voices and perspectives. Where possible, include resources created by Indigenous authors, educators, and communities. Language matters, use the names of specific treaties and Nations when teaching about local histories.
