Welcome to the East Asian Studies Subject Guide!

This guide will help you find key sources of information for your chosen area of study. You will find print and electronic resources in Chinese, Japanese, Korean (CJK), and English. Tabs for the respective language also contain language-learning resources, including dictionaries and learning modules.

Searching for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) resources

The East Asian Information Literacy project provides a series of foundational video tutorials on searching for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) resources in library catalogues and databases, managing your research data, and more.

See the Audio & Video subject guide for a variety of streaming film and video sources. Many films have subtitles. A select collection:

In our Library Catalogue:

  • Search for title and/or author (i.e. creator, e.g. composer, performer, director...)
  • To retrieve audio or video recordings (physical and streaming), add one of the following phrases (NB: PT means Publication Type):
    • PT audio
    • PT video
    • PT (audio OR video) 
  • Combine with the place name (e.g. China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong).
