Responsible Metrics

The University of Alberta Library strongly endorses the principles outlined in the Statement on Research Impact: For Research and Innovation at the University of Alberta and in Bibliometrics: The Leiden Manifesto for Research Metrics

This means that our work:

  • Encourages the consideration of both qualitative and quantitative assessments.
  • Measures research impact against the values and the research missions of the institution, research group or researcher as appropriate.
  • Pushes us to consider a broad range of impacts, not just those that can be measured.
  • Appreciates and celebrates locally relevant research.
  • Provides methodological descriptions and access to the data used in analysis.
  • And takes the citation practices of different disciplines into account.
