Subject guides are starting points when "Search the Library" isn't enough.

Search the library:  combine these with your broad topic(s).

Examples:

Subject Terms / Keywords

Use in basic search or "subject" field search (usually in advanced search).

Combine terms like:

  • Indians of North America
  • Inuit
  • Siksika Indians
  • Haida Indians
  • Micmac
  • [other First Nations names]

with ...

  • "religious aspects"
  • cosmology; mythology;
  • ritual; rituals; liturgy; worship
  • doctrines
  • "customs and practices"
  • "vision quest"; "medicine wheels"; sweatbaths
  • ""ghost dance"; peyotism: powwows; "funeral customs";"

For example:

Indian dance AND Cree

TIP: keep track of useful subject terms for future searching.

Call Numbers. Shelf Browsing.

Explore the shelves physically and "virtually" (through call number searching).
